A Letter from the Superintendent
Greetings NCSU Families,
I’m checking in with families briefly before our start of school on Tuesday. Please know that our administrators, faculty, and staff have been working hard over the summer and especially the last two weeks to be ready for the reopening of school. I’m confident that we’ve put in place all the necessary procedures to support a healthy learning environment. Certainly, we can all expect some adjustments over the first week as we all get used to new routines and practices.
A couple of updates and reminders:
The USDA has just approved free meals for all children through December 31, or until funding runs out. For children accessing virtual learning programs, you can call your home school to make arrangements to pick up meals. High School students may also make arrangements to pick up meals at the school in your community on days they are not at the high school. We still ask all families to complete their free and reduced lunch applications.
Please be sure to complete the daily health check for your child each morning and have them prepared to show the health check slip when boarding a bus and entering school. Ask your school for a thermometer if you need one. Your help with this process will greatly assist the start of the school day and ensure we’re keeping everyone healthy.
Please be sure to encourage your child to wear their mask and practice physical distancing. Again, these measures are to help ensure their health and that of others.
Please review your school’s handbook or our NCSU Strong and Healthy Start Handbook on our NCSU website for all the information you need to know.
We are looking forward to having students back at school and also glad we are able to support many families through various virtual options. I wish everyone a positive and successful start to the school year!

Please note the following, shared by coordinator Beth Chambers:
“This is a childcare program run by a large number of volunteers that change throughout the week. The volunteers have a running master chart that lists when students have remote learning that they are supposed to log into, and will help them log in, but it is not the responsibility of the volunteers to ensure work is being done, or create any kind of consequences for students who refuse to do work. Some days there may be a teacher in the room familiar with your child’s work, able to help them more fully, but other days that may not be the case. Please send notes if there are days and times/remote classes that children should be logging into for the chart, and we will do our best to get them logged on. There may be times when it is not feasible to connect them.”
Northeast Kingdom Human Services has established a NKHS Parent Support Line. They have a phone number now dedicated to this community service.
This will be available Monday through Friday 8:30-5:00 and the hope is to move to 24/7.
This line is a dedicated warm line for parents and guardians to access when having difficulty managing their children’s behaviors at home. It is staffed by NKHS’s Children’s Department clinicians.
